Godiva rocks at the belgrade
Godiva Rocks

Date: 07 October 2017 - 21 October 2017

Every day

Location: Belgrade Theatre Belgrade Square Corporation St Coventry CV1 1GS

Godiva Rocks is an unmissable new musical featuring a host of hit songs from Coventry artists through the decades.

From the same team behind the smash-hit Coventry Blitz play, One Night in November, this new musical features 20 classic songs from Coventry artists such as Frank Ifield, Vince Hill, Hazel O’Connor, The Specials, Terry Hall, King, The Primitives and The Enemy.

Girl meets boy in Coventry – but nothing, and nobody, is what they seem, all because of one extraordinary night at the Orchid Ballroom, back in December ’64 …

Shady financier Leo Freeman’s decision to knock down the Orchid ballroom has far-reaching consequences – as daughter Nell meets the extraordinary Patrick Vernon – and the hunt for a missing tape reveals a history of musical passions and romantic jealousies stretching back to the dawn of musical time.

Godiva Rocks is a celebration of Coventry music from the 1950s to the present day – the greatest sounds ever from England’s Motor City!

Cost: £19 to £27 Concessions: £14 to £25

Pink sari revolution

Every day

Location: Belgrade Theatre Belgrade Square Corporation St Coventry CV1 1GS

“When you grow up in this place, the violence becomes a part of you”

In the “Badlands” of Uttar Pradesh, where violence against women can be traced back into Indian mythology, one woman has raised an army to say “no more.” She is Sampat Pal, the formidable and fearless leader of the Gulabi Gang, a movement of over 400,000 women fighting for their rights in a uniform of blazing pink saris.

One winter’s day, Sampat learns of Sheelu Nishad, a young girl thrown into prison in the dead of night. As Sampat investigates, a chain of events is set in motion that reveals the real cost of making a stand.

This co-production with Curve, in association with West Yorkshire Playhouse, will be created by a unique collaboration of award-winning Indian and British Asian artists. Fusing together drama, music and movement, Pink Sari Revolution is a true story based on the book by internationally renowned journalist Amana Fontanella Khan and meetings with Sampat Pal.

Recommended age guidance 13+
Some scenes contain references to sexual and domestic violence.

This production is supported by the British Council’s UK/IN 2017 bilateral year of cultural exchange.
