south warwickshire
South Warwickshire is a truly historical hotspot, with a variety of market towns that stretch from mediaeval to Georgian times, along with two famous castles, the glorious river Avon, and of course Shakespeare's Stratford.
Kenilworth & Stoneleigh
These historic towns are well worth a visit. The ruined Kenilworth Castle looks over the Old High Street, Abbey Fields and the modern town centre. The red sandstone village of Stoneleigh boasts the imposing Stoneleigh Abbey and Stoneleigh Park; home of the National Agricultural Centre and the annual Royal Show.
Royal Leamington Spa
Once a fashionable health resort, this town is graced with elegant terraces of the Regency and Victorian eras. Jephson Gardens and the Royal Pump Rooms are two of the attractions open to the public along with excellent shopping and a good selection of cafes and bars.
Warwick
This mediaeval market town is home to more than just the castle. Market Place is a bustling area with cafes, bars and restaurants and great specialist shops. Markets are held every Saturday along with monthly farmers' markets. Lord Leycester Hospital, Warwick Racecourse and Warwick Museum are also well worth a visit.
Stratford-upon-Avon
Stratford-upon-Avon is a picturesque town beautifully situated on the river and with a wealth of black and white timber framed buildings. Enjoy a stroll around the town centre with its good selection of shops, restaurants and tearooms.
A great way to explore the town and the neighbouring viiages is with City Sightseeing's hop-on, hop off buses. Walking tours with Stratford Town Walk are also popular.
There are plenty of family attractions, including Stratford Butterfly Farm and Shakespearience. Old and young alike will also enjoy a visit to The Falstaffs Experience, a living museum where history is brought to life with theatrical and atmospheric settings.
