transport heritage tour

Day One

Start the day at the Coventry Transport Museum right in the heart of Coventry city centre; it displays the largest collection of British road transport in the world. There are many varied exhibitions, the ‘Spirit of Speed' being the most exciting as it gives you the opportunity to feel what it is like travelling at 763 miles per hour!

‘Cyclopedia' showcases over a hundred of the museum's cycles dating from 1818 to the most recent high tech examples. Lunch and refreshments are available in the coffee shop, or alternatively try one of the many fabulous restaurants at the nearby Priory Place development.

After your well-deserved lunch, head to the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust, located on the site of the former Jaguar plant in the Allesley area of Coventry. More than 140 historic vehicles form the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Collection, many of which are just as they left the factory.

Each vehicle on display is a living icon of a by-gone era and symbolises a milestone in the development of Jaguar cars. Jaguar merchandise is available for purchase in the on site gift shop.

Day Two

Day two begins with a visit to the Midland Air Museum at Coventry Airport, Baginton. The museum houses a unique collection of aircraft, engines and support exhibits telling the story of the jet age.

Exhibits range from the magnificent Avro Vulcan bomber through to more than 30 other historic aircraft, both civil and military, aero engines and other artifacts. The museum is particularly proud of it's collection of material relating to Sir Frank Whittle, the Coventry-born engineer who designed the jet engine which made modern high-speed aircraft and economical air travel possible.

The museum houses a heritage centre dedicated to the memory of Sir Frank and his marvelous inventive genius.

Drive towards South Warwickshire and take lunch in one of the many towns and villages on your way to the Heritage Motor Centre at Gaydon. Set in 65 acres, the museum houses the largest collection of British made cars in the world.

Exhibits include ‘Making British Cars', ‘Icons of the Motor Industry' and ‘Life's Highway'. There are also outdoor activities which include go-karting and off-road driving (closed during the winter months). A variety of pre-bookable guided tours are also available.

The Heritage Motor Centre holds a variety of special events throughout the year, including car club days.
